In October 2016, Mr. Gopal Das, a founder member of UIS (Unity Is Strength), encountered a heart-wrenching scene outside Red Cross. A tribal lady named Ms. Sumati Munda stood with tearful eyes, clutching a blood requisition form and her crying 4-year-old son. She explained her elder son, Sudarsan Munda, aged 12, was battling blood cancer and urgently needed 6 packets of RDP for treatment. Lacking funds, she couldn’t afford the crucial medication, and her younger son cried out of hunger. Touched by their plight, Mr. Das immediately purchased biscuits for the hungry child and arranged for 4 packets of RDP to help Sudarsan.
Deeply moved, Mr. Das visited Sudarsan in the hospital. Inside, he witnessed a heartbreaking scene: patients of all ages, from 8 to 80, fighting for another chance at life. Determined to make a difference, Mr. Das attempted to donate essentials to the patients, only to be turned away by hospital staff, who urged him to form an organization for assistance.
From that day forward, UIS began its mission to aid financially underprivileged cancer patients. With the support of like-minded individuals from TCS, UIS took its first steps at AHPGIC, Cuttack, in October 2016, and has since continued its unwavering commitment to supporting cancer fighters in need.
